Abstract

This article examines the semantic and structural features of phraseological units and lexical repetitions expressing adjective intensification in the French language. In particular, phraseological comparisons formed on the basis of the adjective + comme + noun model and the intensificational potential of reduplication are analyzed. The study highlights their historical development, semantic resemanticization, emotional-expressive function, and usage in modern literary discourse. It is shown that in phraseological comparisons, the object used as a standard of comparison gradually loses its literal referential meaning and shifts toward an intensifying semantic function. Furthermore, reduplication is substantiated as one of the ancient grammatical means in French for expressing a high degree of adjectives.
